How tracking works

The technical detail behind the program - for everyone who wants to know exactly how clicks become commissions.

The link

Your referral link is a plain paperhero.io URL with your code attached: paperhero.io/?via=yourcode. It works on EVERY page - pricing, features, help - so you can link from an article straight to the page it talks about. Add a campaign tag (&s=mytag) and it shows up in your statistics.

The cookie

When a page with ?via= loads, paperhero.io itself sets a single first-party cookie, valid for 60 days. It contains your partner code and a click ID - nothing else. No third-party cookies, no fingerprinting, no tracking pixels, no interstitial redirect domain. Because your link points directly at paperhero.io, it also reads as a clean, direct link to search engines.

Last-click attribution

If a visitor clicks several partner links, the most recent click before the purchase wins - the cookie is simply overwritten each time. This is the standard model in affiliate marketing: the partner who finally convinced the customer gets the commission.

The conversion

When the visitor subscribes on paperhero.io, the checkout reads the cookie and stamps your partner code into the subscription. From that moment every payment of that subscription is attributable to you - server-side, via Stripe's webhooks. An ad blocker that eats JavaScript pixels doesn't break this.

The commission math

When the first regular monthly invoice is paid, we look up the exact processing fee Stripe charged us for that payment and credit you the rest: gross amount − processing fee = your commission. The dashboard shows all three numbers per referral. The €1 trial month is skipped; the first full month counts.

The second-month condition

Your commission stays "pending" until the customer pays a second regular month, then it flips to "released". If the customer refunds within the 14-day money-back window or cancels before the second payment, the pending commission is voided. Once released, a later cancellation doesn't touch it.

Payouts

Released commissions are paid monthly once your balance reaches €25, via PayPal or SEPA transfer. Payouts run against credit notes (self-billing, §14b UStG) - that's why we need your company name and VAT ID or §19 UStG small-business declaration.

What is not tracked

Subscriptions bought inside the iOS app (Apple In-App Purchase) can't be attributed to a web click - Apple doesn't let a browser cookie reach the App Store. Send traffic to paperhero.io. If Apple attribution becomes feasible, it will be added to the same dashboard.
